Ouroboros-Book Cover

Faux book cover done in class, using paper torn (not cut!) by hand into a semi-abstract shape of a dragon forming a spiral, to represent Ouroboros, the symbol of cyclicality and a frequent figure in ancient myth. If you don't know what Ouroboros is, I highly recommend googling it--it's pretty cool. ;)

Time taken: About 2 hours (most of which was spent ripping up the paper).

Fashionista Sketches

"Fashionista Sketches"
Examples done for a fashion illustration position that turned out to be already filled. The style was very sketchy and loose, so I made a custom brush in Photoshop to give it a marker or pastel feel. The poses were taken from reference, but the outfits are of my own creation. Took less than an hour for both.

Lavendar Skies and Bubblegum Hair

Really quick portrait of a fantasy girl in a fantasy landscape. Going for a light, fluffy feel, instead of dead-on realism. Girl done in Painter, background in Photoshop.
Time Taken: less than 3 hours

Through the Storm

"Through the Storm"
Centaur done in Painter, details and background done in Photoshop.
Took about nine hours total, including the multiple times I redrew the background until satisfied. Drawn from scratch except for the backdrop of the clouds, which is a photo manip colored over to make it look more stormcloud-like.

Julie Character Sketch

"Julie Character Sketch"
A concept sketch of an elf girl named Julie, from the same project as Faolan. She's on the move a lot in a medieval-type setting, so I tried to design a practical outfit that fit the setting. Faolan is her guardian of sorts, and the gem ties her to him. She also has her hair cropped short, but she couldn't bear to make it too, too short. Done in Photoshop.

Time taken: About four hours.

Nikolai the Betta

"Nikolai the Betta"
Sort of a color theory experiment, drawing of my betta, Nikolai. Made a photoshop brush for the scales. The background is simplified to bring attention to the details of the fish.

Time taken: about four hours.

Starsky Cityscape

"Starsky Cityscape"
A bit of an experiment for me, to see what I could do in a different style of a subject I don't usually draw. More sci-fi than fantasy, I'd say. The background sky is a photomanip, the rest is drawn. Done in Photoshop.

Time taken: Less than two hours.

Faolan Character Sketch

"Faolan Character Sketch"
A concept character study for a fantasy character, a baby dragon named Faolan. I studied bat wings quite a bit in designing this, and lizard/cat feet. As he's supposed to be a very tiny creature (less than two feet long, counting the tail), I think he could physically work. Done in Photoshop.

Time taken: About four hours.

Fae Medusa

"Fae Medusa"

Sketched on paper, then scanned in, inked and colored in Photoshop. For the scales, I made a new brush and played around with filters.

Time taken: About 6 hours
